The first three Lancaster-Lebanon League girls' basketball league games are in the books, so it's time to unveil our first Player of the Week award winner for the 2009-10 season.
And that honor goes to Cedar Crest senior standout
Meghan Phillips, who did a little bit of everything in the Falcons' first three crossover games.
On Dec. 17 against cross-town rival Lebanon, Phillips pumped in a career-high 30 points — and hit a 3-pointer — in Cedar Crest's 48-38 victory.
On Dec. 21 in Quarryville, Phillips scored 26 points — and hit two 3-pointers — in the Falcons' 65-56 loss to upstart Solanco, and in that game, she joined the 1,000-career-point club.
And on Dec. 23, Phillips kept up her early-season torrid pace with 20 points — and a pair of 3-pointers — in Cedar Crest's 71-34 romp over Conestoga Valley.
In that red-hot three-game stretch Phillips, a 5-9 guard, averaged 25.3 points, hit five 3-pointers and became the eighth player in the history of Cedar Crest's girls' basketball program to score 1,000 points.
For her efforts, Phillips is this season's first
LancSports.com girls' Player of the Week.
Through six games — Cedar Crest is 2-1 in the league and 4-2 overall — Phillips is the league's leading scorer, averaging 22.3 points per game. She also has 11 3-pointers, the most by any Section 1 player.
Heading into the first round of the Wilson Holiday Tournament, Phillips has 134 points this season and 1,042 in her career.
