Lancaster Mennonite's Danielle Peirson will continue her field hockey career at the University of Iowa after accepting a scholarship offer to play for the Big Ten team.
Peirson was a first-team L-L League Section Three selection last season. She was a second-team pick for the Pennsylvania Field Hockey Coaches Association Class AA all-state team.
Lancaster Mennonite was 16-8 last year, reaching the Class AA state tournament after finishing fourth in District Three.
Peirson, a team captain, had 19 goals and 12 assists last season. She played in the 2009 National Futures championships and was on the goal-medal team in the 2008 National Futures championships.
Iowa (9-10) had two Lancaster County players, both from Warwick, on its roster last year. Meghan Beamesderfer was a second-team All-American in her senior season. Midfielder Becca Spangler is a sophomore.
Peirson was one of four players, and the only one from Pennsylvania, to sign letters-of-intent for the Hawkeyes on Wednesday.
